Change in income generated from agricultural activities (by type)

Change in income generated from agricultural activities (by type)

Code:
Result Level:
  • Outcome
Objectives:
  • Increase and diversification of incomes
Description:

Increased income indicates improved production and improved food and nutrition security, and hence improved household resilience to shocks. - Includes staple crop, vegetable and agroforestry production. Crop revenue (production times price) tracks the revenue contribution of the crop. Net crop income is much better whenever possible because profits are dependent on production costs. Typical key costs to measure are hired labor and inputs costs.

Disaggregated By:

Geography/Livelihoods zone; Gender, age, disabilities, chronic diseases (for individuals, associations members, etc.); Head of household’s gender, age, disabilities, chronic diseases, dependency ratio (for households), and any other relevant criteria, such as urban/rural context, religious, ethnic or political identities; Wealth groups; Livelihoods group (e.g. pastoralist, farmers, traders); Period to achieve the objective;

Direction of change:
  • Increase (number)
Data source:

Both secondary and primary data collection can be used according to context. Baseline/Endline. If multiyear programme depending on comparison requirements between lean season and other seasons, consider an interim reporting/evaluation; Secondary data. Reliable/relevant sources from other actors, clusters or government. Data Collection methods: Secondary data analysis; Households Survey, Focus Group Discussion; MSME/productive organization survey and records. Ministry census/employment records Pre and Post Harvest Crop Assessments Households Survey; Focus Group Discussion; Market assessment

Measure Notes:

> Proportion and Quantity of agricultural production sold (by type) relative to baseline > Price/Terms of Trade per item (by type) relative to baseline > Change of importance of income source pattern relative to baseline - Proportional piling/ranking is a useful method for assessing proportions of changes in production of overall cultivation and income. Ranking can support assessing change in food and income source pattern. - Needs to consider linkages with food and income sources, as well as dietary diversity (see Core Indicators) - Needs to consider potential changes in seasonal productivity, e.g. not every season in bimodal areas is similarly productive.
