Objectives: |

Description: | To record diversification in terms of agricultural production. It is appropriate to use for programmes that have a particular focus on risk reduction. In initial stages of development, growing a more diversified array of crops is a means of mitigating against risk (as risk abates later, farms will opt for specialization), either in terms of production for own consumption or for sale into the market. Indicates improved access to agriculture inputs, increased knowledge on variety of crops and is proxy indicator for improved productivity, food security and diversified diet. - Includes staple crop, vegetable and agroforestry production. |
Disaggregated By: | Geography/Livelihoods zone; Head of household’s gender, age, disabilities, chronic diseases, dependency ratio, and any other relevant criteria, such as urban/rural context, religious, ethnic or political identities; Wealth groups; Livelihoods group (e.g. pastoralist, farmers, traders); Period to achieve the objective; |

Measure Notes: | > Number of crops cultivated relative to baseline > Type of crops cultivated relative to baseline > Surface of various crops cultivated relative to baseline - Proportional piling is a useful method for assessing proportions of various crops of overall cultivation surface or household production. - Needs to consider potential changes in seasonal availability of agriculture inputs, needs to measure overall change. - Needs to consider potential changes in seasonal productivity, e.g. not every season in bimodal areas is similarly productive. |
