Description: | Percent of households scoring low on the household hunger scale and categorized as having severe household hunger. Food security has three components - availability, access and utilization. This indicator measures the access component of Food security using the Household Hunger Scale (HHS) to assess household hunger in food insecure areas. The HHS consists of three questions and three frequencies that, when administered in a population-based household survey, allows for estimating the percent of households affected by three different severities of household hunger: 1) Little to no household hunger; 2) Moderate household hunger; and 3) Severe household hunger. HHS data can be validly used for decision making, to priorities among regions or diverse settings with highest need; for cross-regional and cross-national monitoring and evaluation of policies and programmes; and for global tracking of household hunger. |
