Description:

Number of tree seedlings produced and planted with project funds that are alive at the end of the project period. To demine: ownership and demand for seedlings, correct choice of species for the local conditions, quality of technical training to farmers and nursery managers. Low survival rates may indicate: - Poor planning and implementation. Project did not consider issues like control of bushfires, free grazing, pests and diseases. - Inappropriate choice of species. - Inadequate training in nursery management and tree care. - Lack of ownership / demand for the seedlings. Project donor led and seedlings planted to gain access to project goods and service (food for work, etc.), or planted on government controlled land so no interest from the participants in voluntary work to protect the seedlings from goats/ fire, termites, water and weed the seedlings.
